Cottage Breaks - Rosmerta & Brighida Cottages
A pair of self-contained cottages, converted from the original Moresby Hall farmhouse. Both are situated at the rear of Moresby Hall, in the oldest part of the property, thus retaining many original character features and dating from 1250 approx.
We take great pleasure in welcoming our guests, and maintain the properties personally to a high standard. Our properties are suitable for couples, families & friends, and colleagues on business, sporting or group activity interests. We do not accommodate Hen / Stag parties.
Brighida Cottage
Brighida Cottage sleeps up to 6 persons with 1 double room (en-suite shower, basin & toilet) and two further twin rooms*. There is an additional bathroom (bath, basin & toilet) dining kitchen and cosy lounge with a quality 3 piece suite.

Rosmerta Cottage
Rosmerta Cottage sleeps up to 4 persons with 1 double and 1 twin room*. We do not recommend Rosmerta for anyone who may not manage to ascend the (short) ancient spiral stone staircase. There is a bathroom (bath, over bath shower, basin & toilet) large dining kitchen and cosy lounge with beams, traditional furniture and quality 3 piece suite. Rosmerta can also accommodate up to 6 guests by utilising a twin en-suite room in Moresby Hall with the inter-connecting door – price then charged as 3 bedroom Brighida cottage.

Each cottage can be modified to offer an extra double room * as one set of twin beds in each cottage can be “linked” to provide a super king double bed. Additional folding beds can be supplied for small children in each cottage. It is essential to advise on booking if these are required.
Both properties are centrally heated, spacious and attractive with co-ordinating décor throughout. Good quality pine bedroom furniture, carpets, curtains, bed linen, towels, kitchen equipment, utensils, pans & crockery. Other equipment includes – large fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, electric hob & oven, kettle, toaster, iron & board, electric hoover, colour TV, video, CD music centre, clock radio alarm, hairdryer. There is a washer / dryer machine available in both cottages. All the bedrooms have a colour television as well as the lounge area.
Parking is within the large outer courtyard, which was once the farmyard for Moresby Hall farm. Guests are very welcome to relax and enjoy our walled gardens at the front and side of Moresby Hall.
Only guests staying in Rosmerta & Brighida cottage may use Moresby Hall’s walled garden areas. We regret this is not available for other cottage properties in the vicinity.
All gas, electricity, bed linen, bath & hand towels, tea towels, dishcloths & VAT is included. There is a supply of cleaning materials, kitchen & toilet paper, and luxury hotel style toiletries basket in each bedroom. We provide fresh flowers, home made cake, a bottle of wine, tablecloth, napkins, books, videos & board games to make your cottage a home from home. Babysitting available ~ charged extra.
For Weekly Bookings
There is also a free welcome grocery pack which usually comprises tea, coffee, sugar, milk, orange juice, cereals, bread, butter & preserves, sausages, bacon and eggs. Each guest is entitle to either -
- One full English breakfast per person served in Moresby Hall dining room free of charge

- A £5 discount off dinner in Moresby Hall (children over 10 years only in the evening)
If you already shop on www.Tesco.com you can order your holiday groceries on line before you leave home, which are then delivered to Moresby Hall for us to put in your cottage. The delivery must be for the 10:00am – 12:00pm noon slot only on the day of arrival and you MUST remember to tell us to expect your order!!
Dinner is available by arrangement. Dine with us in Moresby Hall’s elegant dining room.
See sample menus or we’ll provide dinner in your cottage. We offer a set 3 course meal which should be prebooked in advance if it is required on arrival. Quite handy when you just want to unpack and relax when you get here! Another full English breakfast is available on any of the days you are with us by arrangement at £10 pp.
We provide plenty of tourist information and we are always available to assist whenever we can be of help. In accordance with legislation, the gas boilers are serviced regularly and a current landlord’s certificate available. All electrical items are tested and certified under the conditions for “portable electrical appliances”.
Short cottage breaks, usually a min of 2 nights self-catering (or bed & breakfast with breakfast in Moresby Hall) are sometimes available for late booking or low season.
Each cottage is thoroughly cleaned and bed linen / towels changed at the end of the week for bookings of a fortnight’s or more duration. A mid week or daily cleaning service is available but charged extra - prices on request.
Children are most welcome. We are pleased to advise on the suitability of our accommodation / grounds for your children. A travel cot, stair gate and highchair are available on request at no charge. For hygiene - please bring your own babies bedding for the cot.
Smoking is not permitted in the cottages or Moresby Hall due to the architectural importance of the buildings. There is an inner courtyard (undercover) outside both cottages. Guests may smoke in this seated area or elsewhere in the grounds.
We regret we cannot accommodate pets. There are local kennels approx 3 miles away. Between the hours of 8am – 6pm (summer) or 9am – 5 pm (winter) you can collect your pet for a day out. A booster vaccination certificate is required. Kennel cough vaccination is recommended but not obligatory. Please contact Pam at Whinmill Kennels, High Harrington. Tel 01946-832002.
We require a deposit of £50.00 per week booked, which is non-returnable. The balance is payable in full 8 weeks before the arrival date. Holiday cancellation insurance is available. Click here for more information. Please telephone or email first to check availability.
A 5% discount is available for the following:-
- Guests who pay in full when making their reservation more than 8 wks in advance
- Booking of two or more consecutive weeks. The discount is taken off the combined price of the holiday e.g. 2 weeks @ £300 pw = £600 (5% disc = £30)
Deposits and balance payments can be made as follows: -

All bookings will be confirmed in writing or by email within 7 days.
We recommend taking out cancellation insurance in case you need to cancel your trip.
