Environmental Policy
David and Jane Saxon are committed to protecting the environment and are conscious that sustaining a business in the 21st century requires careful management of the potential impact that business has on the wider community.
Our decision making at Moresby Hall is influenced on a daily basis by our determination to reduce waste, raise environmental awareness and encourage recycling.
As we are a small team with 100% input from our employees, we recognize the importance of encouraging our staff (and visitors) to respect the environmental issues we are aiming to address. To this aim we strive for continuous improvement and a formal review annually.
Moresby Hall is a 16th c Grade I listed building. Implementing measures more suited to a modern building is a challenge as we must also meet the regulations governed by the Conservation Officer and English Heritage. Nevertheless, we are proud to list below our ongoing initiatives:-
-
Replacement in 2008 of inefficient heating boilers resulting in huge reduction in energy use. They are SEDBUK A-rated and have an extremely high efficiency performance of up to 98% (GCV)
-
Monitoring (monthly) our energy use
-
Installation of additional loft insulation and draught exclusion
-
Purchasing - from local producers, free range, Fair Trade and organic food produce
-
Purchasing - asking suppliers to limit their use of bags, wrapping and containers
-
Reduction of commercial bin use due to actively recycling
-
Increase in fortnightly collection of recycled items
-
Recycling - paper, cardboard, cans, plastics, printer cartridges & glass
-
Reusing - boxes, packaging, egg cartons, envelopes, reverse of A4 paper, glass jars
-
Using - products manufactured from recycled materials where practicable
-
Limiting - packaging (food wrap, foil, plastic cartons)
-
Changing - to energy saving bulbs wherever possible
-
Changing - vehicles to reduce C02 emissions and save fuel
-

-
Reducing - the use of paper disposables (serviettes, cleaning cloths etc) using fabrics instead
-
Installation of water butts & garden irrigation system
-
Composting vegetable kitchen waste and fresh house flowers for use in the Garden

-
Encouraging staff not to leave appliances on STAND BY (bedrooms, offices, kitchen)
-
Careful use of in-house laundry (large reduction in chemicals and energy used)

Careful use of commercial dishwasher mostly on 2 minute cycle (always full load) for energy saving
