Weddings & Civil Partnerships
Moresby Hall is one of the oldest properties in Cumbria yet is one of the newest to become a licensed venue for small civil weddings and civil partnership ceremonies.
Cumbria was recently voted as the most romantic destination in the UK so there could be no more perfect place to celebrate your special day. We hope you will choose Moresby Hall for your ceremony to enjoy the rare ambience of this historic building.
Our ceremonies are conducted by the Registrar in the first floor FLETCHER suite with maximum of 36 guests. This stunning room was renovated in 2006 and is situated at the front of the Hall overlooking the walled gardens. It has high ceilings and chandeliers, bespoke Brinton’s carpet and a very calming ambience.

We can also hold ceremonies on the ground floor if disabled access is required but this would be for a max of 20 guests.
Weddings at Moresby Hall are small, intimate and individual with the emphasis always on the wishes of the couple. This is not a place for “wedding packages” or a conveyor belt approach. The number of weddings is limited each month to ensure that attention to detail and quality is second to none. This is not a hotel environment. We want you to feel that Moresby Hall belongs to YOU where friends and family are welcomed here by both of you to share your special day.
The cost for the ceremony and your own photography at Moresby Hall within a 2 hour duration is at a cost of £300 with drinks charged separately. We can also offer a champagne & canapés mini reception during this period at a cost of £15 - £20 pp
The cost for the ceremony, your own photography, and either a luncheon or dinner reception within 4 hour duration is at a cost of £600 with food and drinks charged separately. There is an additional staffing cost of £150 per hour if you would like to extend your celebration.
The above prices include exclusive use of Moresby Hall, the personal attention of owners Jane & David Saxon with arrangements and our team of dedicated staff. We also include fresh flowers in the entrance hall, ceremony room and dining table but your own florist is welcome to decorate with additional displays as you wish. We have some wonderful areas for photo opportunities including the walled gardens, open fireplaces and 16th century staircase.
We will host your seated table reception for up to 30 guests in DE MILLOM an intimate dining room, with imaginative menu choices, and a selection of wines, beers and spirits. See Dining for some of our sample wedding menus from £30 pp - £45 pp with everything prepared freshly in-house for your special celebration. We are flexible regarding the menus and can include any favourite requests.
Our two four poster suites (De Asby and Copeland) are perfect for a luxury honeymoon night to remember. We include complimentary champagne, chocolates and fresh fruit to welcome you. See Accommodation for more information.
You have a choice of luncheon or dinner for your reception. However if you want exclusive evening use of Moresby Hall it will be necessary to book all four en-suite bedrooms for your group. Special rates will apply for family / friends booking accommodation in Moresby Hall or the adjacent cottages.
For an evening reception we can also offer entertainment in the form of either a CASINO NIGHT or CABARET NIGHT. See Special events . We do not have facilities for a disco or dancing event unless a marquee is ordered for in the grounds.
Marquee Hire
Following a small ceremony in Moresby Hall as above, it is possible by special arrangement for a Marquee in the gardens for a larger reception to include dancing if required. We require a fee for the use of the grounds and can recommend local marquee hire companies and excellent caterers who will be pleased to co-ordinate your function.
We can make recommendations locally for flowers, cake design, wedding cars, photography, hair & beauty, suit hire, wedding stationery, entertainment and a range of helpful information. See Wedding Services allowing you to access the attention to detail that is vital on your important day.

- Mon – Thur ceremony - £225
- Friday ceremony - £250
- Saturday ceremony - £280
- Sunday or Bank Holiday ceremony £360
- The Marriage certificate £3.50 per copy
Renewal of Vows – an opportunity to celebrate your special day again and reaffirm your commitment to each other.
All the information regarding Moresby Hall (above) is applicable for your ceremony with the exception that the fees for the Registrar are:-
- Monday to Thursday ceremony - £115
- Friday ceremony - £125
- Saturday ceremony - £140
- Sundays & Bank Holidays – £180
Naming ceremony – to welcome a child / children into the family and wider community, to announce the chosen names and make promises of commitment to nurture and support the child / children.
All the information regarding Moresby Hall (above) is applicable for your ceremony with the exception that the fees are payable to the registrar:-
- Monday to Thur ceremony - £115
- Friday ceremony - £125
- Saturday ceremony - £140
- Sundays & Bank Holidays – £180
